Who we are
Alef Al-Quran Academy provides online Quran, Arabic and Islamic studies lessons for children. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

What we collect
When you register your interest
- Your name and email address
- Your telephone number, if you provide one
- Your child’s first name and age
- What you would like your child to learn, and their current level
- Your preferred lesson times
When your child takes lessons
- Lesson attendance and scheduling records
- Progress notes written by the teacher
- Payment records (we do not store card details - these are held by our payment provider)

Children’s data
We take particular care with data about children, in line with the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code.
- We collect the minimum needed to teach: first name, age and level. We do not need your child’s surname, school, address or photograph
- Accounts are held by the parent or guardian, not by the child
- We do not profile children, and we do not use their data for marketing of any kind
- We do not share children’s data with third parties for their own purposes

Who we share it with
Your child’s teacher sees their first name, age, level and progress notes. Nothing else.
We use third-party services for video lessons, email and payments. These providers process data on our instructions only. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Where your data is held
Our teachers are based in Egypt, which means limited personal data (your child’s first name, age, level and lesson notes) is accessed from outside the UK. Where data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by UK GDPR.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become lessons: 12 months
- Lesson and progress records: for the duration of lessons, then 2 years
- Financial records: 6 years, as required by UK tax law
- Marketing consent: until you withdraw it
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access your data; correct it; have it erased; restrict or object to how we use it; obtain a portable copy; and withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, email us. We will respond within one month and will not charge you.

Complaints
