Terms and Conditions

These terms apply when you book lessons for your child with Alef Al-Quran Academy. We have tried to write them in plain English. Where something is a genuine obligation on you, we have said so clearly rather than burying it.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are between Alef Al-Quran Academy and the parent or guardian booking lessons. A child cannot enter into this agreement. The account holder must be 18 or over.

2. Booking and trial lessons

A trial lesson is free and carries no obligation. You are not asked for card details to book one
Regular lessons begin only once you have confirmed in writing that you wish to continue
We may decline a booking, for example where we cannot provide a suitable teacher or time

3. Lessons

Lessons are one to one and delivered live online
Standard lesson lengths are 30 or 45 minutes
You will be allocated a regular weekly slot. We will not change it without agreeing an alternative with you first
You need a device with a working camera and microphone and a stable internet connection. We cannot refund a lesson lost to your own connection failing

4. Cancellations, missed lessons and rescheduling

You cancel with at least 12 hours notice: the lesson is rescheduled at no cost
You cancel with less than 12 hours notice: we will always try to reschedule, but cannot guarantee it
Your child does not attend without notice: the lesson is treated as taken
We cancel for any reason: the lesson is rescheduled or refunded - your choice, not ours
Illness: tell us and we will reschedule. We will not be difficult about a sick child

5. Pausing and holidays

You may pause lessons for school holidays, Ramadan, exams or family reasons by giving us one week’s notice. Your regular slot is held for up to six weeks. Beyond that we cannot guarantee it, though we will do our best.

6. Fees and payment

Fees are payable monthly in advance, in pounds sterling
Prices are as shown on our pricing page at the time you book
If we change our prices, existing students keep their current rate for at least three months and we will tell you in writing before any change takes effect
If a payment fails, we will contact you before suspending lessons

7. Ending lessons

You may stop at any time by giving us two weeks notice in writing. No reason needed and we will not ask for one
We may end lessons where fees remain unpaid after reminders, or where a parent or child behaves abusively towards a teacher
If we end lessons, we refund any unused fees you have paid

8. Changing teacher

You may request a different teacher at any time, without giving a reason. We will arrange it as quickly as we can.

9. Safeguarding

Our safeguarding rules are set out in full on our safeguarding page and form part of these terms. In summary: teacher cameras stay on for the whole lesson, there is no private contact between teacher and child, and you may join any lesson without notice.

10. Conduct

We expect courtesy in both directions. Our teachers will treat your child with respect. In return we ask that teachers are not subjected to abuse. We will end lessons in cases of serious or repeated abuse, and will refund unused fees.

11. Intellectual property

Any worksheets or materials we provide are for your child’s personal use. Please do not redistribute or resell them.

12. Recording

We do not currently record lessons. You may record your own child’s lesson for their personal use, and we ask that you tell the teacher you are doing so. Recordings must not be published or shared publicly.

13. Liability

We provide lessons with reasonable care and skill. We cannot guarantee a particular rate of progress, since that depends on the child and on practice between lessons. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

14. Complaints

Tell us. You will get a reply from a named person, not a form response. If we have got something wrong, we would rather know.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
